Justice Minister Felix Collins describes a new prisoner transport vehicle purchased by the province as "recognition of the changing face of corrections in the province and the need for advancement in terms of transporting inmates."
The Ford F-450 super duty truck and transport unit was unveiled in front of Confederation Building today where Capt. Sean Brophy of Her Majesty's Penitentiary showed the minister all the features of the new equipment.
Collins said a lot of inmates are transferred from facility to facility in the province and this "state-of-the-art machine" will ensure the safety and security for both inmates and staff.
The vehicle, which cost about $134,000, has four separate cells with separate doors, each of which can hold up to four inmates, for a total capability of transferring 16 inmates at once.

that definately isn't big enough and we need about a dozen, just to transport the court order and probation breachers back to the streets....vive les criminals!

I think that this is a great investment for our province. JW, our government has many different elements of our society that it has to apply funding. Fine, our healthcare system is in need of help, both structurally and financially however we must try and keep an open mind and be glad that money has been spent within our justice system that benefits workers at risk in their workplace. A better argument would be the contrast of the money spent on this transport and that of the standard of living and employment at the Penetentiary itself.

They should make them walk where they need to go ... they can pick up garbage along the way ... not too mention their nasty mugs will scare moose away from the highway. That will mean money save, cleaner highways and less moose accidents. I'm a genius!

God, prisioners get better transportation then the sick and dieing..... A $134,000 dollars wasted on a suped up truck when it could be used on our failing health care!!!!!! I love how our goverment thinks..............

It sounds to me that the PEOPLE who are being transporrted would be no better off than a heard of animals.Don't forget the human element.Why don't the government invest the money in educating the very People they are transporting.I would guess most of these individuals are young adults that have poor social skills and perhaps drug and alcohol issues.134,000.vehical to take PEOPLE to a place that is not fit for a rodent.The HM.PENITENTIARY is filthy!
