Nalcor Energy today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to engineering and project management companies for the Lower Churchill Project's detailed engineering design, procurement and construction management work.
In February 2009, the Lower Churchill Project issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) to six national/international engineering and project management companies.
Of the five who responded, three have been selected to move forward to the RFP process. The successful companies are:
• Black and Veatch
• Hatch Ltd
• SNC-Lavalin
"The project is reaching a stage where it is necessary to engage external specialists who are experts in various disciplines. The release of the RFP is consistent with Nalcor Energy's project planning approach and is another step necessary to continue to prepare the Project for the development phase," said Gilbert Bennett, vice president, Nalcor Energy - Lower Churchill Project.
"These three companies are specialists in the engineering and construction of major hydroelectric and transmission projects and will be required to provide details of their benefits plans and commitments in their responses to the RFP."
Nalcor expects to receive proposals from the companies this fall.

One step at a time Chris. Has the government straightened out it's position with the first nations ? Could be all for naught.

No transmission route, no financing, no aboriginal agreements, no customers - yet our government calls for propsals. Maybe they will get imaginary responses to go along with the imaginary project...

The request for proposals t also include the direction the electricity will be traveling put into it, ie. down through the island portion of NL then onto N.S..

Will this request also consider the redirection of the electricity from the upper Churchill being rerouted through the same lines one the ,I will use the term loosely CONTRACT with HQ is over. That way we can leave them high and dry with a big income lost due to their greed.
