A delegation of 17 Atlantic Canadian companies and organizations will travel to Farnborough, England, from July 19-25 for an aerospace and defence business mission to the 61st Farnborough International Airshow.
"The aerospace and defence industry is one of Atlantic Canada's fastest growing industries and a major driver of export growth," said Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue and minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
"The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is committed to helping Atlantic Canadian aerospace and defence firms establish valuable international contacts and successfully compete on the international stage. That's why our government is investing $167,612 for this mission."
According to a news release, ACOA is organizing the mission with the Aerospace and Defence Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Atlantic Alliance of Aerospace and Defence Associations.
The Farnborough International Airshow, held every two years in the United Kingdom and alternating with the Paris International Air Show, is among the world's largest international tradeshows for aerospace equipment and technology.
In 2008, 300,000 visitors attended the Farnborough air show resulting in more than US $89 billion in orders - more than double the 2006 sales.
Trade mission delegates will participate in one-on-one business meetings, networking events, market familiarization briefings, round-table discussions with key industry leaders, and site tours. Delegates will also attend the air show exhibition where close to 1,400 exhibitors from over 40 countries will exhibit the latest aerospace and defence products and services.
