The Iron Ore Company of West Labrador is coming to town. During a speech at the St. John’s Board of Trade luncheon Friday, Zoe Yujnovich, the Labrador West company’s CEO and president, said the company will be opening an office in the city.
“It is extremely important to us that we work alongside our government and our community partners,” she told board members at the Bella Vista, who applauded the announcement.
After her speech, Yujnovich said discussions to open an office in St. John’s began not long after she took over as the company’s CEO in January.
“It became very clear that the St. John’s community was so important to where we’re moving in the province, that having an office here is a natural opportunity to make sure that we’re present and working in partnership with our key stakeholders,” she said.
Although the location for the office is still being finalized, Yujnovich said the location will be an “external-relations hub.”
“It’s an area that we’ll actually make sure that we’re working with the province in terms of business relationships, looking in terms of recruitment and how we might expand, because we’re looking for so many additional roles in our mine site, as well as looking at how we structure relationships and manage environmental matters,” she said.
Heather Bruce-Veitch, the company’s manager of external relationships, will oversee the new office, which is scheduled to open in November.
“We’re looking forward to strengthening our relationship with the goverment, with the broader community and with other external stakeholders,” she said.
