Short-term hiring prospects down in St. John’s: report

A new report from the Conference Board of Canada says short-term hiring prospects in St. John's are down again this month.

The report, released Friday, is based on a monthly index of online employment ads for jobs in major census metropolitan areas across Canada.

The October report says employment prospects are up in most major centres across Canada, but not in a handful of cities, including St. John’s.

jobs in NL are hard to find and if you manage to get one that you don't hate, you are most likely going to hang onto that job for as long as you can. the main issue I have is most jobs I can do (I only have grade 12) rarely give me enough hours to pay for rent let alone power and other bills.

they employ friends and family. equal oppurtunity employers is a sham. 28 years old and never yet to get a job in this province without knowing someone. hence the reason i work away. they don't mind though, they still get my taxes. i would of aspired to be a bureaucrat, but i didn't have any family members working in the government, so it would of been a waste of my time.

More evidence of the 'Danny Williams effect''. No jobs in rural NL, and now no jobs in the city. I guess government can't employ everybody - but they're trying folks, they're trying. 7 years of trying and little to show in results.
