The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) and the Community Employment Corp. (CEC) in Port aux Basques have reached a tentative agreement on a proposed four-year contract.
NAPE president Carol Furlong said in a news release, “This is a reasonable and acceptable agreement which we are prepared to recommend to our members, the 28 employment support workers, who assist the corporations’ clients.”
The agreement is subject to the approval of government, specifically the Department of Human Resources and Employment. Both Furlong and CEC board chair Bryson Webb say they are optimistic government will come on board.
“We value our employees and we’re very pleased to have reached a mutually acceptable agreement for those covered by the proposed contract,” said Webb. “This agreement will provide the employment support workers with security and stability they need to continue moving forward to improving the lives of the individuals we serve.”
Details of the new contract, which covers wages and benefits, will be released once a formal agreement is in place.
