A fuel spill is being cleaned up next to a North Atlantic depot in Donovans Industrial Park. The spill was discovered in September.

There has been a diesel fuel spill at North Atlantic’s tank farm in Donovan’s Industrial Park, but a spokeswoman could not say Monday how much has been spilled.

There are 10 tanks on the site containing distillate fuels, but none of them are leaking, North Atlantic spokeswoman Gloria Warren-Slade said.

The spill was detected in September and the company has been testing ever since to figure out the origin of the leak. A 15- to 20-foot deep trench was dug alongside the Mount Pearl property, heavy equipment was working in the pit and Crosbie Industrial Services trucks have hauled away some soil.

The trench is used to collect any additional fuel seepage.

A Government Services environmental protection officer also visited the site, but the department referred The Telegram to North Atlantic for comment.

Environment Canada has also been advised.

Warren-Slade said North Atlan-tic was working with government officials to identify the source of the spill and to clean up the area.
