Hello all, Even though this article is a about a year and a half old, I would like to add my two cents to say that I have recently decided to cancel my trip to NL because of the cost of the ferry. It would cost about $600 to transport my car plus two passengers. I have decided to cut my trip short at Halifax and spend more time in PEI to save money. I estimate that I would have spend about $600 - $1000 during my week long stay had I been in NL. I think NL needs to reconsider the ferry prices if it wants to attract more visitors from the mainland.

Old article, however I just calculated the cost to take our 38 foot motorhome with car in tow to Newfoundland and back with our group of nine adults and kids at $3400. OUCH!!! Last summers trip to New Orleans from Ottawa and back with side trips and gas for the mini van was under $2000. I guess we will go to Chicago instead.

If you are not working in the Oil Industry, you have to question why we are living here. It is far too expensive for retired fixed incomeers, civil servants and minimum wage workers. We should all take one last trip on Marine Atlantic and move to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or PEI. GOOD-BYE Newfoundland.

MBC.... heads on. I'm living in Koirea since 1996. I'm married with two children. When I look at the cost of living, I almost cry. Will my children ever know their other culture? To the hell with oil.

Two weeks ago, we made what may well be our last trip on the ferry between the mainland and Newfoundland. We have been making the trip once and sometimes twice a year since 1998. The service is unreliable and the price is way out of line. What with the latest fare increase, it is actually cheaper to fly to St. John's from our home in Florida.
