Offshore regulator says rig will remain shut down until cause of fire understood

A small fire broke out on the drill floor of the offshore drill rig Henry Goodrich at about

11:15 a.m. Wednesday and was extinguished “very quickly,” according to a Husky Energy spokeswoman.

No one was injured in the fire.

The rig is currently being used by Husky to drill a development well at the North Amethyst site, a satellite of the White Rose oil field.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board has stated, in an incident bulletin available now online, the “small flash fire” offshore was put out using a pressure washer on the rig deck.

“Operations have been shut down until circumstances of the event are understood and it is deemed safe to continue drilling operations,” the board notice stated.

Husky Energy has confirmed the temporary shutdown, adding the rig is stable and the development well has been shut in until the cause of the fire is determined and work resumes.

No worries here. The CNLOPB will let Transocean (Gulf of Mexico fame) investigate themselves and everything will be rosy.

  You give CNLOPB too much credit...CNLOPB will be told by Transocean that they have already investigated itself, that everything is rosy, and they wil supply CNLOPB with a formal statement to that effect to release to the press.
