I was recently in St John's. I called the Holiday Inn for a room and was quoted $259 for an ordinary room for one night. I said, "Thanks, but no thanks" and stayed with an aquaintance. NO HOTEL ROOM is worth this kind of money. If the city of St John's started a program like "Take In Tourist" where nice people with a spare bedroom offered a room for a night at reasonal rates the hotels would soon have to drop their prices to a reasonal rate, which in my view is $75 a night or less. All you need is a clean bed and bathroom and a chance to get a quiet sleep. There is absolutely no reason for these inflated prices except greed.

What will scare away tourists is the ridiculous car rental rates and the scam of not offering unlimited kilometres! That is a money grab!
