The way in which many people use their cellphones in public is a good indication as to how rude and ignorant they really are. The cellphone is simply a means by which these people display their rudeness and ignorance to complete strangers.

Put a $10 charge on people's restaurant tab for using their phone.....then just watch how all those "important" phone calls dry up, and how restaurants will go back to being places where civilzed people want to be again..

I like the idea of stacking cellphones and the first person to reach for his/her phone pays the bill. There is a reason for signs asking to turn off your phone.

Having a conversation on your phone or with someone accompanying you while ordering anything is rude. Place your order and then chat. However, if I am sitting at a table and need my phone on for a valid reason then it is no different than having a conversation with my fellow eaters. I will say that those stupid ringtones are brutal in any situation.
