Representatives for Vale Newfoundland and Labrador have met with federal government representatives regarding charges laid against the company, alleging illegal dumping into waters off Labrador.

At provincial court in St. John's Friday morning, a request was made for 30 days for consideration of what was described as "discussions" between the two parties on the matter.

None of the charges against the mining company have been proven in court.

The case will be called again

Sept. 30 for an update.

Vale is facing three charges of breaching the federal Fisheries Act over the course of almost a month in October 2011 for the alleged illegal release of liquid waste into Anaktalak Bay, Labrador.
