Fortis reports profits, revenues up

St. John's-based Fortis Inc. reported today its profits and revenues were up during the first three months of this year.

The company generated profits of $92 million on revenues of more than $1.2 billion during the first quarter.

During the same period in 2008, Fortis reported net earnings of $91 million on revenues of $1.14 billion.

Fortis owns Newfoundland Power, along with other electric distribution utilities in the Maritimes, Ontario and the Caribbean.

As well, the company owns a natural gas distribution utility, Terasen Gas, in Western Canada, and has commercial real estate and hotel holdings throughout Canada.

    for everyone who is thinking about commenting about electricity rates, Newfoundland Power already has an application to the public utilities board to lower rates in the province by 6%.

    Hard to beat a public utility on an island with no competetion... I invest in Fortis keep it up...
