St. John's-based Vulcan Minerals Inc. has discovered natural gas at its west coast well in the Bay St. George basin.
Located south of Stephenville, the Red Brook No. 2 well flowed natural gas during three tests last week.
Vulcan says further evaluation of flow rates will be needed to assess the discovery.
The company will also further assess its Robinson's No. 1 well, which ran into gas shows during drilling in October.
Vulcan is involved in petroleum and mineral exploration in Newfoundland and Labrador.
