The town council of Happy Valley-Goose Bay has announced its support for a review of search and rescue capacities within the province.

The town says there is a growing need to strategically position assets throughout the province and to expand hours of operations to a full 24/7 service.

"Happy Valley-Goose Bay is a prime location for a SAR unit," Mayor Leo Abbass said.

"Not only is the infrastructure available here but our proximity to the Eastern Arctic is an advantage that can save time in getting to those in distress. With an increase in exploration, marine traffic, eco-tourism, and cruise ships into remote areas it is time that this review take place and that the recommendations from it be carried out."
