Scott Simms, MP for Bonavista, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, paid tribute in the House of Commons today to Tina Moores of Grand Falls-Windsor who lost her life on Aug. 15, 2009 after jumping into Red Indian Lake near Buchans with her sister to help save a nine-year-old girl from drowning.
"The bravery shown by this young woman is an example of courage and sacrifice at the extreme limit," Simms said. "Ms. Moores was known throughout the community as a kind and giving person who cared for everyone around her. If she saw someone in need and was in a position to offer help, she was there to lend a helping hand."
Moores was an operating room nurse at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and a certified lifeguard for many years, as well as a Red Cross safety instructor.
"She made the ultimate sacrifice and will not be forgotten," Simms said. "Tina is sadly missed by her family and her large circle of friends. In the true definition of a hero, Tina Moores fits that description."

A nomination for the Governor Generals' Award for Bravery has a greater chance of selection if the person is nominated by their member of Parliament.
A nomination for the Provincial Bravery Award has a greater chance of selection if the person is nominated by the Premier.

Frank M you don't know what you are talking about. That may be so at the provincial level where Danny has turned the Order of NL into a patronage slush fund, but federal govenment honours from Rideau Hall are given much more weight when it is ordinary Canadians who are making the nominations, and not politicians.
