The Council of Independent Community Pharmacy Owners (CICPO) and Medavie Blue Cross have ratified a new two-year contract to begin in April.
In January, CICPO said it was caught off guard by a letter from the insurance company stating it would impose a new unilateral agreement on how much pharmacies are reimbursed for drugs.
CICPO member pharmacies threatened to no longer accept Blue Cross cards for automatic billing, forcing card holders to pay for their drugs upfront.
That plan was quickly scrapped after the two sides agreed to meet.
In a news release today, CICPO said it wouldn't discuss the details of the new agreement, but said it's satisfied the new agreement will maintain the "viability of the rural and neighbourhood pharmacy" in this province.
