CORNER BROOK, N.L. - A financially strapped paper mill on Newfoundland's west coast will shut down one of its paper machines for two weeks.
Montreal-based Kruger Inc. says in a news release today that the shutdown at its Corner Brook newsprint mill will affect about 110 employees.
The machine will be closed from Dec. 23 until Jan. 7.
The company says the 15-day shutdown will result in a 4,000 metric tonne reduction in newsprint output.
In June, the majority of more than 300 workers at the mill — the last in the province — accepted a new contract amid the threat of imminent closure.
