CAMPBELLTON, N.B. - An RCMP officer is recovering in hospital after he was shot in northern New Brunswick.
Const. Chantal Farrah says the officer was shot early Wednesday morning in the Campbellton area while in the line of duty.
Farrah says the Surete du Quebec, that province's provincial police force, has been called to investigate.
But Farrah declined to explain why they were brought in to find out what happened.
Sgt. Ann Mathieu of the Surete du Quebec says 10 officers have begun interviewing potential witnesses as well as the injured officer and another officer who was with him.
Mathieu said investigators are still trying to determine the circumstances, but they believe it was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public in the area.
Police have not released the injured officer's name but say his injury is not life-threatening.
