HOPEDALE, N.L. - Police in Labrador say they have arrested a 28-year-old man after a six-hour standoff ended peacefully today following a domestic dispute.
The RCMP say they responded to a complaint just before midnight on Thursday after a 24-year-old woman fled from a home.
The Mounties say the woman had been assaulted and was taken to a local medical clinic for treatment before she was airlifted to a hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay in serious but stable condition.
The man, who had a firearm, refused to leave the house.
Police say he was intoxicated.
Police say the man, who has not been named, is facing charges of aggravated assault, pointing a firearm, uttering threats and breach of court orders.
