DORCHESTER, N.B. - The Correctional Service of Canada says it is investigating the death of a 70-year-old inmate at a New Brunswick prison.

The federal agency says John Allain was found unresponsive in the bedroom of his living unit at the Westmorland Institution in Dorchester on Wednesday.

It says correctional officers performed CPR and emergency services were called, but Allain could not be revived.

The agency did not issue a press release on the death until today.

Allain began serving a five-year sentence at the minimum-security facility last March for indecent assault of a female and sexual interference with a female under the age of 14.

The release says police and the coroner have been notified.
