DIGBY, N.S. - RCMP in Nova Scotia are investigating after an excavator and its operator plunged into the ocean today.
The Mounties say officers were called to the construction site of a breakwater next to Digby wharf around 11:30 a.m.
Police say the tip of the breakwater collapsed, sending the excavator and its operator into the water.
Police say the excavator became submerged, but the 56-year-old operator was able to escape unharmed.
The provincial Department of Labour and Advanced Education is assisting with the investigation and efforts are underway to retrieve the excavator.
