NOTRE-DAME, N.B. - Police in New Brunswick have laid sexual assault charges against a couple in their 60s who used to operate an unlicensed daycare centre in their home in Notre-Dame.

The Mounties say the alleged offences took place about 10 years ago.

Hedwidge Surette, 63, and Ronald Gaudet, 64, were charged Thursday in Moncton provincial court.

Other charges include sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and forcible confinement.

RCMP allege the offences happened when the daycare was operating.

Police say as of late last week, the daycare was no longer looking after children.
