Heroux-Devtek hit by reduced U.S. military spending, government shutdown

LONGUEUIL, Que. - A leading Canadian aerospace company says it's temporarily laying off about 40 employees near Montreal due to reduced military spending and the recent partial government shutdown in the U.S.

Heroux-Devtek Inc. (TSX:HRX) manufactures aircraft landing gear for civilian and military planes and does repair and overhaul work for the U.S. Air Force in Longueuil, Que., south of Montreal.

According to documents filed previously with Canadian regulators, Heroux-Devtek had nearly 1,000 employees in its landing gear business at the end of March.
