ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - An RCMP officer has been suspended with pay after he was charged earlier this month with perjury and obstruction of justice.

The Mounties say Const. Shawn Greene was charged Feb. 10 after Halifax Regional Police conducted an independent investigation into a complaint made in May 2013.

A statement issued by the RCMP does not offer details about the alleged offences, except to say that the investigation looked into Greene's work while he was stationed at its detachment in Harbour Grace, N.L.

Greene was transferred to Nova Scotia's Richmond County in February 2012.

He is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Harbour Grace on April 9.

The RCMP say it is unable to comment further because the matter is before the courts.
