RED DEER, Alta. - Progressive Conservative party officials in Alberta will meet today in Red Deer to set out the details for the race to choose their new leader.
Dave Hancock will serve as premier until the party selects a permanent replacement for Alison Redford in the coming months, but he says he himself will not be a candidate.
Hancock is now officially the 15th premier of Alberta after taking the oath of office in front of fellow caucus members and guests in a ceremony at Government House Sunday night.
Hancock says he will respect the tradition that any cabinet ministers who decide to run must resign from cabinet to prevent any candidate from having an unfair advantage.
Under party rules, the vote must be held no earlier than four months from now and no later than six.
A number of PC cabinet ministers have said they're mulling over a run for the leadership.
