Suspect accused of using axe in robbery outside Moncton, N.B., bank

MONCTON, N.B. - Police in New Brunswick say charges are pending after a suspect armed with an axe assaulted a man as he was dropping off a deposit bag at a bank in Moncton.

RCMP say the armed robbery happened Monday on Mountain Road just before noon.

Police say a man was about to make a deposit at a CIBC branch when he was assaulted and robbed.

The suspect fled on foot but was tackled by a passerby who, with the help of another witness, managed to get the bag from the suspect.

The Mounties say the suspect and an accomplice then drove away in a vehicle.

Police say a 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were later arrested on Cedar Street without incident.
