WABUSH, N.L. - Police in western Labrador say a forest fire that prompted a voluntary evacuation order for people using cabins near Wabush has been contained by firefighters.

Const. Steven Curnew of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the fire was reported around 1 p.m. in an area known as Blueberry Hill, near Flora Lake.

Curnew says police established a safety perimeter and the road leading to Blueberry Hill was closed.

He says the evacuation request was a precautionary measure and it wasn't clear how many people left their cabins.

Curnew says firefighting ground crews and a water bomber were called in to fight the flames.

He says the fire was considered under control around 4 p.m.
