Board nixes contract renewal for Toronto police Chief Bill Blair
TORONTO - Toronto's police services board has decided against renewing the contract of Chief Bill Blair, who has frequently clashed with Mayor Rob Ford.
Blair had requested an extension after his current contract expires next April but the board decided against that.
The board offered no substantive reason for its decision, saying only it came after "considerable discussion" and was related to the need for "organizational renewal."
A Blair spokesman said only the chief thanked the board "for its consideration."
The board said in a statement that it will start looking for a successor.
It also thanked Blair for his service.
