Two men charged in Halifax-area stabbings that killed woman, injured sister

HALIFAX - Halifax police have charged two men in connection with stabbings that killed a young woman and injured her sister three years ago.

The 25-year-old suspects were arrested Wednesday and interviewed overnight.

Police say Demarqus Shane Beals faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Keya Knita Simon.

Simon was found unconscious and suffering from stab wounds inside the front doors of an apartment building in Dartmouth on Jan. 8, 2011.

Her 32-year-old sister was also stabbed when police say a fight broke out during a party in the building.

Police say charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public have been laid against Carondo Shondez Downey.
