FREDERICTON - A trial is scheduled to begin today for a New Brunswick Mountie on charges of assaulting two RCMP officers last year.

Cpl. Ron Francis previously pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the alleged incident Dec. 6 in Fredericton.

Francis made national headlines last year when he complained he wasn't allowed to smoke medicinal marijuana for post-traumatic stress disorder while in uniform.

He is on leave from the RCMP.

Three days have been set aside for the trial.
