Sunny Fong delivers sultry looks for VAWK, feminine chic with VAWKKIN
TORONTO - From the remixed Madonna tracks pumping from the speakers to an homage to Jean Paul Gaultier's cone-shaped bra, the Material Girl's presence was firmly stamped on Sunny Fong's VAWK line at Toronto's World MasterCard Fashion Week.
In his liner notes, Fong cited both the artistic and personal styles of Madonna and Frida Kahlo as inspiration for the spring-summer collection.
The nods to Madonna's 80s-era style were evident with the form-fitting blazers, strapless bustier bodice dress and, of course, the pointy brass cone bra.
The latest creations from the designer's luxury label oozed with sex appeal, kicking off with the jaw-dropping lacy dress boasting a fluttering sheer skirt that opened the VAWK presentation.
From sheaths to shifts and suit dresses, the creations were rich with adornments, with satin ribbons and ruffled trims. The line also featured unconventional prints, with colourful artistic renderings of a heart printed on a bathing suit and lungs on a loose tunic.
It was a decided contrast with the VAWKKIN line which featured a more conservative range of feminine chic creations seemingly suited for the office and after-hours.
Steeped in a palette of black and white, the collection featured well-tailored blazers and trench coats, pleated trousers, pretty satin blouses, peplum tanks and an elegant array of little black dresses.
