When you have guests over the holidays, here's a recipe for banana French toast that you can make ahead and slide into the oven in the morning.

It was developed by Sun-Maid to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary in December.

Banana French Toast Bake

8 slices raisin cinnamon bread

2 medium bananas cut in 5-mm (1/4-inch) slices

250 ml (1 cup) milk

125 ml (4 oz) softened cream cheese

3 eggs

75 ml (1/3 cup) sugar

45 ml (3 tbsp) all-purpose flour

10 ml (2 tsp) vanilla extract

Powdered sugar (optional)

Place 4 slices of bread in a single layer in a buttered 23-cm (9-inch) square baking dish. Top with bananas and 4 slices of raisin bread.

In a blender or food processor, blend milk, cream cheese, eggs, sugar, flour and vanilla until smooth.

Pour over bread. Let stand for 5 minutes or cover and refrigerate overnight.

Bake in a 180 C (350 F) oven for 40 to 45 minutes (50 to 55 minutes if it's been refrigerated) until set and top is toasted. Let stand for 10 minutes.

Cut french toast into diagonal halves and remove with spatula. Dust servings with powdered sugar, if desired.

Makes 4 servings.
