ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Memorial University has finalized its purchase of the former Battery Hotel property on the edge of downtown St. John's, N.L.
The school will spend up to $16 million to renovate the landmark hotel, which it bought for $9.5 million.
Memorial University president Gary Kachanoski says the school will now begin looking at how it will use the property.
The hotel is perched on the edge of a hill at the north end of St. John's harbour.
University officials have said the purchase is needed because buildings on the main campus are full.
