BRIDGEWATER, N.S. - A veteran municipal politician in Bridgewater, N.S., is reflecting on his time at town hall.

Mayor Carroll Publicover is not seeking re-election in the Oct. 20 municipal vote, putting an end to a 27-year run in town politics.

Publicover was first elected to council in the south shore community in 1985 before becoming deputy mayor in 1988.

He served in that role and as a councillor until 2004, when he became mayor.

Publicover says he's grateful for his two terms as mayor, and believes Bridgewater will continue to thrive under new direction.

He isn't saying what he plans to do next.
