ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Igor Bobkov made 38 saves as the Norfolk Admirals shut out the St. John's IceCaps 2-0 in American Hockey League action Sunday.
John Mitchell and Patrick Maroon each scored for Norfolk (5-1-0), which got several exceptional saves early from Bobkov to keep St. John's off the score sheet.
The first goal came in the second period and was unlucky for the IceCaps (4-4-0).
St. John's goaltender Eddie Pasquale made the initial save, but was bumped by an Admirals player before he fell over and the puck trickled in with the goal credited to Maroon.
Just over eight minutes later, Norfolk extended their lead. Mitchell came out of the penalty box and fired a wrist shot on a breakaway that beat Pasquale at 19:49.
The third period saw both teams exchange chances, with the IceCaps outshooting the Admirals 18-3 without success.
Pasquale finished with 25 saves, while St. John's were blanked on six power-play opportunities. Norfolk went 0 for 2.
St. John's finished their six-game home stand with a 3-3-0 record, and now embark on a five-game road trip.
