N.B. squad wins world pond hockey championships in Plaster Rock, N.B.

PLASTER ROCK, N.B. - The World Pond Hockey Championship will stay in New Brunswick for a second straight year.

The Acadian Boys of Tracadie-Sheila beat a team from St.-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Que., 18-13 in the open division final yesterday.

In the ladies' division the Bud Light Lushes of Washburn, Maine edged the Airforce Women from Greenwood, N.S., 10-9 in overtime.

Thirty-two out of 120 teams advanced to Sunday's playoff round including a team from Puerto Rico.

It was the 13th World Pond Hockey Championship.

The even was established in 2002.
