A campaign to raise money for a Ronald McDonald House for this province got off to a good start today with a $500,000 donation from the province.
Premier Danny Williams announced the donation at the Fluvarium in St. John's this morning.
Ronald McDonald House will provide a place for children who have to come to St. John's from rural parts of the province for serious medical attention, to stay with their parents and families.
The total cost of the project is $4.5 million.
Memorial University is also donating some land behind the Janeway Children's Hospital as the site for the province's Ronald McDonald House. It will the 13th one built in Canada.
The goal is to break ground for the two-storey, 14-suite home next year, and open the facility in 2011.

McDonald's doesn't make enough money to do this themselves? Every one of the fast food places has collection boxes on the counter for some charity .The public pays there and pays again in taxes. They collect millions in these boxes, donate a minimal amount to (their own) charity, then get to claim it as a charitable donation (that they didnt give a dime to)These complanies actually do NOTHING but get the credit for it.It's the oldest trick in the book.People, wake up!! If you want to do something charitable to make yourself feel better,go do some volunteer work.Stop lining the pockets of these huge, rich companies.
