A candlelight vigil will be held at Middle Cove Beach 5:30 p.m. Let G20 leaders know the planet needs a real deal on climate change. Snacks and music.

Cowan Heights Community Christmas tree lighting and carol singing will be held next to the church at 7 p.m. Refresh-ments will be available.

Monday, Dec. 14

The British War Brides and Daughters monthly lunch meeting will be held at the New Moon Restaurant, 656 Topsail Road. If you plan to attend please call them by Sunday at 368-6698.

Tuesday, Dec. 15

RCMP Const. Todd Hussey of the Placentia Detachment is in the process of issuing his second "food bank challenge." Community support organizations of the Placentia area have been challenged to collect food for the area food bank and bring it to the DFO office in Placentia on Dec. 15. The food will be weighed and divided by the number of employees. The organization which donates the most food per employee wins "bragging rights" only.

Wednesday, Dec. 16

The Music Corner presents Coastal Sounds Conception Bay South Community Choir Christmas Foodbank Concert 7:30 p.m. at St. Thomas of Villa Nova Church, C.B.S. Reception to follow. Tickets: $10 and are available at The Music Corner, 54 Conception Bay Highway and at the door. Children under 12 admitted free. Non-perishable food donations accepted in support of the CBS/Paradise Foodbank.

Thursday, Dec. 17

For the Love of Learning, Inc. will hold two performances of a traditional mummer play. The first show will be held outside the Scotia Centre, downtown St. John's Thursday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. The second performance will be held Friday, Dec. 18. at Gower St. United Church at 7 p.m. Both performances are open to the public and free of charge. Donations and non-perishable food items will be gratefully accepted. For more information, contact Peter Hynes at 722-8848 or e-mail whatsup@fortheloveoflearning.org.
