High winds briefly blew Marine Atlantic off schedule once again this Christmas season.
The MV Atlantic Vision was scheduled to arrive in Port aux Basques around 7:30 a.m. Monday, but was hampered by high winds.
A four-day wind storm interrupted the ferry service earlier this month and shortly before Christmas, while the Vision was docking, a fender broke loose from the Port aux Basques dock and holed the ferry above the water line, putting the service out of commission for about 36 hours.
The most recent delay held up the Vision for about four hours.
Tara Laing, Marine Atlantic's communications officer, said the latest delay didn't back up traffic across the Gulf.
"We're back on schedule," Laing said.
"The traffic itself hasn't been too heavy overall since we got into the Christmas season."
There are strong winds in the weather forecast in the coming days so further delays are possible. She recommends contacting the terminal and watching the website if you're travelling across the Gulf by ferry.
The flow of traffic itself is following a similar pattern to other years, she says. The bulk of the traffic from North Sydney to Port aux Basques comes in the days leading up to Christmas and the traffic heading from Port aux Basques to North Sydney shows a small increase over a longer period of time with people heading back to the mainland after the Christmas holiday.
The wind delay Monday happened between the waves coming to and leaving the island.
"We're back on schedule again today (Tuesday)," Laing said. "We don't have any backlog of traffic and we've been able to transport all the traffic this Christmas season."
