Good thing they cleared out the gravel pits, makes it easier to just back in and dump your garbage and takeoff. That is what is going to happen now, and anyone who thinks different don't pay attention to all of the illegal dumping being done around our province now. Thank Charlene Johnson for giving us all those convenient dumping areas. Why don't they use some of the recycling money they've been stealing from us all these years. What is that money being spent on?

the unfairness of collecting from the householder is just unfair. Why should I pay tipping fees for bags of disposable diapers----left there by people who are too lazy or inept to use cloth diapers.

The collection fee for Upper Trinity South went from $60 per annum to $230.

Calm down James. I for one am a taxpayer, I am alone, I have a mortgage, and I find it hard to pay any extra costs on anything. We had a local garbage disposal site in our community and it was well maintained and looked after. I certainly didn't vote to have it took out of it for some pansies to come in a fancy truck to take garbage somewhere else. It's rediculous. And yes, for your information, TAxpayerII was right, there is illegal dumping happening already, and I don't blame whoever did it. Get a grip and don't be so selfish. There IS more people in this area besides you, news flash.

Well the fees will be hidden in your municipal tax (if you don't pay now, you soon will) so dumping in a gravel pit won't be cheaper for you, you will still ahve to pay your municpal tax.

The collection fee for Upper Trinity South went from $60 per annum to $230. And more garbage is is landing in gravel pits, the woods and along the side of the road. Great way to improve contamination and reduce landfills.

Listen to Mainlander, how Ironic,, half your garbage gets shipped to a nickle mine in Sudbury ( which is a ticking time bomb ) and the other half goes to Detroit.

Charge by the bag/bin. We have 2 people in our family & put out 1 bag a week after recycling. The City of St. John's allows 10 bags of garbage a week per household . TOO MUCH.

Really? I don't hear too many people saying they want to spend another couple hundred bucks on trash. All this will do is lead to more illegal dumping, just what the enviromentalists had in mind.

Steady on, James! I think Taxpayer was resorting to irony.
Little as I know of human nature, however, I have to agree with him. For many people, out of sight is out of mind.
Many people distrust anyone who promotes the environment, thanks to the efforts of people like PETA and the Sea Shepherd Society.

Oh well, I'm off to enjoy a lunch of sea kitten and chips. T.T.F.N.

I live in ontario and have garbage picked up every 2 weeks. recycling is picked up every week. I have 3 blue bins - 1 for paper, 1 for cardboard and one for cans and I also have a green bin for organics. I end up with less than 1 bag of garbage every 2 weeks. I go home to NL and everything gets thrown in the garbage. it amazes me what gets wasted. the last paragraph summed it up - if you visit family/friends on the mainland, you recycle and you don't waste water (we get charged for what comes in and what goes out - running the tap, flushing the toilet, we pay for what we use). start hitting people in the pocketbook and increase the fines for dumping and they will eventually change their behaviour.

Yes, taxpayer, the environmentalists really want illegal dumping. Curses, you found us out! Were you born this stupid, or did you have to take night classes? Yeah, waste disposal costs (in more ways than one). No one wants to spend more money, but as long as we demand to consume more and more, there will be more and more waste -- especially as fossils like you who shun reducing, recycling, and reusing. It's called taking responsibility -- something we teach our four-year-olds.
