The federal and provincial governments announced today $350,000 to support the construction of a new affordable housing development in Lewisporte.
Funding for this project has been made available through Canada's Economic Action Plan.
According to a news release, the project will involve the construction of two three-bedroom, five two-bedroom, two one-bedroom units and one bachelor unit; including one unit for persons with disabilities.
The federal/provincial funding includes $315,000 from Housing for Low-Income Seniors as well as $35,000 under Housing for Persons with Disabilities. The proponent will provide the remaining funding to cover the cost of the project.
The anticipated completion date for this project is August 2011.

For your information, and I am willing to bet that you are from St. John's, the average home in Lewisporte is definitely more expensive than St. John's or probably 80% of the homes in NL based strictly on supplies, labour, furnishings, etc. and leaving out the added value for location and land and that sort of thing. Lewisporte has an absurd amount of luxury homes per capita and I am willing to bet that you'd be surprised if you had to pay for the construction of an average home in Lewisporte.
