Cabot Stadium in Bonavista has received $15,000 through the Community Capital Grant Program to undertake repairs to exterior doors at the facility, it was announced today.
"With this investment, residents of the Town of Bonavista and surrounding areas will have a more comfortable and secure environment in which to organize their sport and recreation programs," Tourism Minister Terry French said.
Bonavista is among more than 30 communities throughout the province which will receive funding to purchase equipment and upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the most recent allocation of $450,900 through the Community Capital Grant Program.
"The Cabot Stadium, while located in the Town of Bonavista, serves the entire tip of the Bonavista Peninsula for indoor recreation and sports activities," said Bonavista South MHA Roger Fitzgerald. "This facility was built in 1965, but has been renovated and maintained over the years. This funding will help continue to make improvements to this important recreation facility."
The Community Capital Recreation Grant Program is an application-based program that provides funding of up to $15,000 to assist municipalities and recreation commissions to improve their recreation and sports infrastructure.

$15,000 to repair doors ? How does that work out, repair to a door should cost less than new doors, and new doors can't be anywhere near $15,000. Someone is going to be paid a LOT of money in labour fees. This doesn't sound right.

This $15 thousand will soften the blow when they do not get any money for the Matthew replica which they have left to rot in Bonavista.

No more good money after bad for that project.
