The Bay d'Espoir Cancer Benefit Group in St. Alban's received a $2,500 donation from CLAC as part of the union's Building Communities Together program.
The organization was nominated by David Willcott, who is a member of Construction Workers Union, Local 63, affiliated with CLAC.
The Bay d'Espoir Local Cancer Benefit Group is a registered, non-profit organization that raises funds to financially assist cancer patients in the Bay D'Espoir area, says Willcott.
The mission of the group is to financially assist a cancer patients, and provide them with the financial relief and certain medical expenses. Support is provided to those who are not covered by some type of insurance or financial assistance. The organization was formed in 1999 and to date, it is estimated that more than 400 cancer patients have benefited from this assistance. Various services that the fund covers include: medical supplies and medications, transportation, ambulance service, accommodations, prosthesis/wigs, and more.
