The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor will be expediting demolition of the former Grand Falls Academy school in light of the second fire at the location in the past 15 months, Mayor Al Hawkins said this week.
The second fire occurred Tuesday morning and was quickly extinguished by members of the Grand Falls-Windsor Fire Department.
In addition to putting measures in place to ensure the demolition of this property early in the new year, council says it will be "closely monitoring existing unoccupied buildings and will be aggressively working with owners to make improvements to their properties or (looking) at possible demolition orders."
