GALLANTS  An election wasn’t necessary Tuesday night in Gallants.

Candidate Rose Patey was unable to run, so the five remaining candidates — incumbents Todd Brake and Leona Collier, along with newcomers Paul Alexander, Deanna Webb and Iris Gould — will make up the new town council.

The new council will meet 7 p.m. tonight to be sworn in and then choose a mayor and deputy mayor via secret ballot.

Former mayor Jim Collier and deputy mayor Melvin Locklyn both decided not to seek re-election.
