The cost of city hall to the taxpayers of Corner Brook is somewhere in the vicinity of $7million. The library lease doesn't even cover the monthly operating cost. Ask to see the numbers.

Emma, please try to get the facts. The city hall was paid for by the provincial and federal governments…basically it was free …taxpayers in Corner Brook have not paid anything and we got a new Library and cenotaph to boot…what more do people want??

Actually the cost of "operating" the library has nothing to do with the cost of the building as the annual operating costs are covered by the provincial government. The lease payments to the city to pay for the building are completely separate from the operating costs that pay for library services to the public and library staff. These payments more than cover the cost of constructing the library space.

http://www.charlespender.ca/2013/07/18/corner-brook-city-hall-whats-it-really-worth/ for those of you still complaining about the cost of city hall. this is obviously not the most impartial article, but the numbers are right.

Everyone is so quick to call it "penders palace" or the new one "taj mahal" but do all the complainers really know how much that cost the tax payers or is it just fun to moan and groan all the time? The federal government payed almost the entire bill for the new city hall. Forget the fact he was the reason behind all the upgrades at bowater park and the new soccer field , lets just run with the funny comments cause we love to bitch all the time without knowing the real facts.

The negativity towards Pender's election leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It seems like nobody in Corner Brook is happy no matter what the outcome. Pender is a smart, compassionate, strong leader. If you think you could have done a better job, why didn't you run? There were only two candidates running for mayor this time around, and the city elected the best option. If your complaints are simply complaints and are not backed my construction, then keep your negativity to youself.

So if there is going to be some change`s,,, ( I dislike that word ( CHANGE ), the new council and the new mayor should have the cost of the new city hall that the citizen`s of corner brook are paying for printed in our city paper, so we can actually see and understand what we are paying for. We all know that everyone make`s mistake`s, BUT WHY NOT GET IT RIGHT FOR A CHANGE ??? There`s that word again.

Congratulations to the new mayor.. Charlie, you were good before and I'll bet you will be better this time. Corner Brook has some good representation for once.. The last four years have been a nightmare for the city under the mismanagement of dictator Greeley.. Maybe now that we have a person with considerable experience at the helm, Corner Brook may actually see some growth.

honestabe and Gord, you claim that Corner Brookers didn't learn from mistakes at the September 24 civic elections. However, that's not true at all. For starters, since most of Greeley's former henchmen, particularly Leo Bruce, Priscilla Boutcher, Gary Kelly, Donna Francis, and Donna Luther, were responsible for Corner Brook's poor business climate and "show entrepreneurs the door" policy, attacks on Fire Fighters, cuts to city services like public transit in the hands of Donna Francis, and poor infrastructure, I'm glad the Corner Brook people have spoken and these political clowns are voted out. Since all incumbents were voted out except Linda Chaisson, Corner Brookers definitely learned from their mistakes in not voting the same-old, same-old council members back in. With a relatively fresh council, perhaps Corner Brook has a good chance to see real change, especially turning our inviting business climate into an inviting one.

Out with the old and in with the .... err OLD!! Looks like seniors do the majority of the voting. Seniors will vote for other seniors. Way to go Corner Brook, another 4 years of stagnant council.

Complete sweep tonight!!!!. The voters got it right. Even the TSX has gained 800 points..... Now to clean house at city hall. Bloated and needs attention. I hope the new mayor and council learn from the past mistakes of the prior mayor and council...... and not neglect the citizens during the next four years....
