HAMILTON - The crowd at NDP Leader Andrea Horwath's campaign headquarters got a little restless waiting for the polls to close Thursday night.

Media assembled at the Hamilton Convention Centre had been watching election coverage on the big TV screen but there was nothing yet to report.

Someone convinced those in charge of the TV to change the station to the Toronto Maple Leafs home opener against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Leafs were leading 1-0 early in the game.

"My eternal thanks to the reporter who convinced the NDP to put the Leafs-Habs game on the big screen at their election HQ," tweeted Pat Maloney, a London Free Press reporter.

The TV was later switched back to the election before the polls closed and results began rolling in.
