NDP promises more child-care spaces, tax break for stay-at-home parents

YORKTON, Sask. - Saskatchewan's New Democrats are promising to add 10,000 more child-care spaces and give families a $1,000 tax break if a parent stays home with kids under three.

The NDP also says that if the party is elected Nov. 7, it will cap licensed child-care fees at $12 a day for school-age children and $22 for infants and toddlers.

Leader Dwain Lingenfelter (LING'-ehn-felt-ehr) says new spaces along with a cap on fees would make child care more accessible and affordable for families.

He says a couple with one toddler and one school-age child in care could expect to keep over $250 a month in their pockets.

The party says it would cost $42 million to create the additional spaces over four years.

Capping the fees would cost $25 million in the first year and reach $50 million in year four.
