CHARLOTTETOWN - A judicial recount will be held today of votes cast in a riding won by just eight votes in the P.E.I. provincial election earlier this month.

Liberal Charlie McGeoghegan managed to hold onto his seat in Belfast-Murray River in the tight race on Oct. 3.

Conservative candidate Darlene Compton came in second with 1,124 votes.

Elections P.E.I. does not automatically perform recounts, but any candidate may apply for one.

Compton has said she's doubtful of a different result, but she owes it to her campaign to have the votes checked.

The recount will take place before the chief judge of provincial court.
